Research Project

Microtoroidal Resonator for Quantum information

We use microtoroidal resonators based on chip to resonantly confine light to small volumes with extremely low losses, giving rise to extremely high quality factors “Q”, and strong coupling “g”, between the resonator and atoms . So weak light at single photon level can control atomic states. In our experiment we couple neutral Cesium atoms or single atom and quantum dots to the field of a microtoroidal resonator, respectively. We plan to demonstrate quantum logic gate and quantum internet based on strong coupling between microtoroidal resonators and single atoms or quantum dots for quantum information.

Thanks for our collaborators: Prof. Min Xiao’s research group in the National Laboratory of Solid State Microstructures at Nanjing University for fabrication of mircrotoroidal resonators, and Prof. Chenyang Xue’s research group in the Micro and Nano Technology Research Center at North University of China for nano fabrication.

Welcome any student interested in this project to join us and enjoy the exciting research.
